When you place it under your head, neck and shoulders, it disperses pressure avoiding any pinch points. Your shoulders and neck experience a deep release that transitions up toward the top of your skull.

Will it hurt? Yes. But only for a little in the beginning.
Each spike responds to tension in your body, so more tension = more sensation. The initial “Ouch!” you feel activates your body’s pain response and tells it to send happiness hormones and pain-relief chemicals to the area you’re targeting. If those spikes aren’t sharp enough – or you’re beyond relaxed already – you won’t feel much.

Solid pillow
I’ve been using acupressure mats and pillows for a long time and thought they were all pretty much the same, until I tried the Shakti pillow. The difference in quality and craftsmanship is immediately noticeable. From the thoughtful presentation to the premium materials, everything feels solid and well-made. I went for the Level 2 pillow, and I’m so glad I did, it’s a huge upgrade from what I was using before.

Great on its own, unsure about mat compatibility
I love lying down on the mat before bedtime, and I wanted the pillow to help support by neck and shoulders while using the mat. Unfortunately, I didn’t find it a good fit to use in this way. When placed above the mat, there is a large enough gap between the top of the mat and the bottom of the pillow where there are no acupressure points, that it misses most of my neck and shoulders. I have tried moving the pillow down and overlapping with the mat, but then it ends up being too high for the space behind my neck. I ended up using the pillow on its own when sitting upright to get some relief on my neck and shoulders. I wish it had worked out for my intended (and advertised) use, especially for the price. The quality is great and consistent with the mat.
