When you place it under your head, neck and shoulders, it disperses pressure avoiding any pinch points. Your shoulders and neck experience a deep release that transitions up toward the top of your skull.

Will it hurt? Yes. But only for a little in the beginning.
Each spike responds to tension in your body, so more tension = more sensation. The initial “Ouch!” you feel activates your body’s pain response and tells it to send happiness hormones and pain-relief chemicals to the area you’re targeting. If those spikes aren’t sharp enough – or you’re beyond relaxed already – you won’t feel much.

Great pillow!
This is my second Shakti pillow and I’m enjoying it immensely. It’s different than the classic pillow and both are very beneficial. I alternate between the two depending where my source of tension is - neck, head shoulders or upper back. I love the size of this one and the bliss foam makes it extra comfy. It’s also great for other areas if you don’t have time to lie on your mat.

Good Craftsmanship, Not for My Body
The pillow and mat are very well made and clearly high quality, but they just weren’t a good fit for me. I wasn’t able to get past the initial discomfort, even after giving them a fair try. I could feel warmth building, but it never crossed over into the kind of relaxing or “ahh” experience I was hoping for.
This may be related to body weight or pressure sensitivity—I felt like the intensity was simply too much for my body. That said, I can see how this could work well for others who enjoy firmer, more intense sensations. Solid products, just not for me personally.
